Champagne Tour 2005

Itinerary

13th July Depart London in our Luxury Coach, via the Channel Tunnel for Reims. Champagne of different styles from the great Houses and Canapés en route with a brief and informative lecture on Champagne from our Guide. Lunch, with Champagne and Burgundy and arrive in Reims 5pm approximately.

Check into the Hotel de la Paix in central Reims. The Hotel has just been totally refurbished, air-conditioned and has a swimming pool. Evening Champagne reception in Rilly is followed by dinner at Le Relais de Sillery with fine wines and, yes, more champagne! Hopefully the fine weather will allow us to dine in the garden.

14th July is a holiday in France, celebrating the start of their Revolution with the Storming of The Bastille. But it is always celebrated with fun and Champagne. Half a day of your own pleasure is added to the half day of intense study of the area. Lunch is at La Garenne near Reims. We shall be joined by the Embassy of the Netherlands and a party of Dutch fans of Champagne. The evening is devoted to a Grand Chapitre Champenois in Rilly-la-Montagne in the cellars of Philippe Brugnon, a Champagne Producer as well as the Consul .General in Champagne. An investiture of Chevaliers by the Grand-Maître and a great repast with dancing concludes the day.

15th July is the day to complete your studies of the notable Houses with visits to two and lunch at one of them. Previous tours have included Joseph Perrier, Taittinger, Pommery, Henriot, Veuve-Clicquot and Gosset. At this stage we haven.t decided which Houses to visit. A wonderful dinner is planned at Le Chardonnay with fine wines and Champagne, bien sûr!

16th July is Saturday. Shopping and a light Lunch at Le Lys du Roy. Our final grand dinner is at La Maison du Vigneron on the top of the Montagne de Reims.

Sunday 17th July , we return, having loaded the coach with your champagne stocks.

The British and Dutch Ambassadors will be on the Tour. The places are limited due to Hotel accommodation and the need for a manageable group.
