The French and Champagne
As a French born Champagne lover, I would like to explain a little about the French’s love affair with the wonderful wine of Champagne.
As the name “Festivités” indicates, the word has its origins and is derived from the French word “Fête”. “Faire la Fête” in France is as sacred as the Champagne most French families would decide to open to commemorate any kind of special occasion whether it is a birthday, anniversary or wedding or as an every day treat. The French even celebrate during the whole of the calendar year, the name sake of Saints and there is no exception for me, as the Sainte Dominique is celebrated on 8 th August of every year. Equally, for most, Apéritifs would not be the same without Champagne.

Brugnon's Elegance
All of this prose, simply to tell you that the French will basically open a bottle of Champagne for every possible occasion. No fridge or cellar is ever complete without a bottle of bubbly and I very happily followed the family tradition by tasting my first two sips of Champagne at the very young age of two. The family quite rightly believing that all the children – there are six of us – should be brought up to respect and enjoy Champagne.
As you may know, the UK is France's most important export market for Champagne and more and more British people are opening a bottle of Champagne for every possible occasion. This is something on which our Ambassadeur is taking the lead and I urge you to follow his example!
