Membership - Club Ranks
There are several ranks in the Confrérie as well as membership of the Confrérie Club:
- Sabreur
- Chevalier
- Officier
- Commandeur
Intronisation or 'Investiture'
The first 'intronisation', or investiture as we call it, is as a sabreur. This is performed at a caveau with the Maître-Sabreur. The new sabreur pays the sabrage fee, plus the price of the bottle of champagne, of course, which you and your friends will drink.
You will receive from the UK Embassy your certificate as a Sabreur and from France, in due course, your Diplôme de Sabrage. You will also receive from the United Kingdom Ambassador, your copy of the Confrérie's Rules and an invitation to join the Confrerie Club, listing the events and benefits.
Promotion to Chevalier
Sabreurs can seek preferment to the rank of Chevalier at a Chapître where they will sabrage in front of the assembled throng. They are then invested as a Chevalier of the Order by the Grand-Maître or the Ambassador and the regalia and certificates are presented to them. A great dinner is then enjoyed by one and all, followed by dancing and further novice sabrage.
Officier and Commandeur
After five years as a Chevalier, members may then seek preferment to the rank of Officier by sabraging a Magnum of Champagne at a Chapître in the presence of the Grand-Maître.
After five years as an Officier, members may then seek preferment to the rank of Commandeur by sabraging a Jeroboam of Champagne at a Chapître in the presence of the Grand-Maître.
