Ambassador Emeritus, Mr Julian White, welcomed members and guests of the Confrérie du Sabre d'Or to a Grand Wine Tasting at the Smith & Wollensky restaurant, just off The Strand.

More than 40 wines, covering nearly all the French wine producing regions, were available to sample (see Tasting Sheet, below).
Prices ranged from £7-£12 a bottle, all the way up to the Grands and Premier Crus at well over £70. There were 4 new Domaines and 5 new Châteaux added to the list since the last tasting.
An optional 3 course Dinner with wine (Julian's selection and generosity), was available upstairs in Smith & Wollensky's restaurant from 7.45pm at a very special fixed price of £66 per person.

A cash bar was established in the private 'Tasting' area, for those that wished to stay on after the official sampling finished.
